Jemima, the Puddle-duck…

Who hasn’t fallen in love with the characters of Beatrix Potter? Gemima, the naive and trusting puddle-duck, who despite being somewhat clumsy, shows determination and captures the hearts of fans for generations and generations!

When thinking of which Beatrix Potter character to make in papier mache after Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle Duck always came to mind. Probably her general features drew me in, but her story actually has hit home with me nowadays. Despite our own common sense and good nature, we can indeed sometimes be misled by people (or foxes) who ‘mean well’ and are invested in our own well being. It is not easy to process the feelings of low self-esteem that being ‘fooled’ by someone might evoke, but it is vital to remember that staying true to yourself and your values is the most important thing. And that mistakes are to be made, so that we learn from them 💕.

Ms. Jemima has actually captured my heart this month more than I actually expected, and there are two versions of her: the paper sculpture and an original watercolor illustration to accompany her. Just couldn’t resist!

Here is a little video for a better look at Jemima:

For anyone who wishes to adopt her, links are right below.

And if you’re in the mood for a light read, to take you back to your childhood, here is an online copy of Jemima’s story: https://etc.usf.edu/lit2go/148/peter-rabbit-and-other-stories/4905/the-tale-of-jemima-puddle-duck/

Till next time… Stay happy and keep creating!!
